STORIES OF HOME: AN EXHIBITION AT THE PEEL ART GALLERY, MUSEUM and ARCHIVES

At Living Hyphen, we know the importance of archiving the history of our diverse communities; histories that have, all too often, gone undocumented, unheard, and untold. That’s why we’re so excited to partner with the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) to capture your migration stories for their upcoming “Stories of Home” exhibition!

To support the exhibition, we’re searching for belongings that tell stories of migration to this region. Do you live (or have you lived) in Mississauga, Brampton, or Caledon? Do you have any belongings related to your journey to Peel that you would be willing to loan to and share with the museum to showcase for all of Peel’s residents? This could include photographs, luggage, outfits, plane tickets, currency, special objects or memorabilia, or any other mementos that are integral to your story as you see it.

We will be hosting a storytelling workshop to co-create the stories that will be shared alongside your belongings in the upcoming exhibition. To indicate interest in sharing your story/belongings as part of the exhibition, please fill out this form by September 15, 2023.

Don’t have a physical artifact to share, but want to tell your story? We’re also looking to feature some of your stories and experiences throughout the exhibition.

Whether you’re new to Peel or have lived in the region for generations, we want to hear from you! However your migration story may look, we are asking you to lend your voice and story to help us create a new exhibition on the topics of home, community, and belonging by filling out this short survey.

Your responses to the questions in this form will guide the exhibition project team and may be featured in the exhibition!

The Stories of Home exhibit will open in the winter of 2024 at PAMA. You are a vital part of this vibrant community’s past, present, and future and we want to be sure to showcase, document, and archive the stories of Peel’s diverse communities!

If you have any questions, please reach out at hello@livinghyphen.ca.

PAMA is an accessible, safe space for the diverse communities of the Region of Peel (Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga) to come together and celebrate arts and culture. We strive to be a place where you can see yourself reflected and actively contribute to building a “Community for Life”.

It’s a place to explore and learn about Peel's culture and heritage, as well as use conversation, questions and stories to help make new and fascinating connections to the surrounding community. PAMA offers a variety of workshops and programs for all ages, families, and adults. There is something for everyone.

Our buildings are our largest artifacts. The site is made of historic buildings: the Peel County Courthouse and Jail, the former Registry Office, and the Modernist Building.
