lIVING BETWEEN CULTURES: A STORYTELLING PROJECT for NEWCOMER, REFUGEE, AND RACIALIZED youth

Do you identify as a newcomer, refugee, and/or person of colour between the ages of 18-25 living in the Greater Toronto Area? Are you an aspiring writer or a curious storyteller? Do you want to share your story of living in between cultures and have the chance at wider publication across digital spaces?

We’re partnering with our friends at the On Canada Project to bring you Living Between Cultures: A Storytelling Project for Newcomer, Refugee, and Racialized Youth where we will be exploring, capturing, and archiving our nuanced stories.

The first part of this experience will include a creative storytelling workshop where we will give you writing prompts to reflect on the joys, grief, triumphs, tribulations, and everything in between that comes with our migration journeys. We’ve intentionally designed this workshop to spark your creativity in an intimate, generative, and supportive space. We’ll have paper, pens, tea, snacks, and a whole lot of encouragement!

The second part of this experience involves capturing and archiving stories you developed during our writing workshop through video, graphics, and other media to be showcased on Living Hyphen and On Canada Project’s website and social media platforms. At Living Hyphen, our mission is to reshape the mainstream and a part of that includes speaking our stories out loud, sharing our lived experiences, and documenting this for future generations.

Please note that this is a paid opportunity! All participants will be given a $100 honorarium. No prior experience is necessary. We only ask that you come with an open heart and an open mind, as well as a readiness to give and receive vulnerability.

We are only accepting eight participants for this workshop so that we can leave lots of time for connection, attention, and listening! Participants must be able to attend both parts of this workshop. Be sure to apply as soon as possible.
