BRING LIVING HYPHEN WORKSHOPS TO YOUR CLASSROOM

We believe in the power of storytelling to create inclusive classrooms and build equitable futures for everyone. At Living Hyphen, we take a decolonial, intersectional, and anti-oppressive approach to teaching. We believe that cultivating confidence first and foremost is critically important for student success and fulfillment in academics, as well as for personal well-being and social connectedness.

We are proud to have worked with school boards across Ontario and post-secondary institutions across the country to share our approach to storytelling through professional development for educators and administrators, as well as through interactive writing workshops and engaging educational presentations with students. We hope to work with you soon too!

TESTIMONIALS

Listen to what our partners have had to say about our work together.

Living Hyphen’s presentation at our provincial organization meeting was exactly in tune with what we needed to hear! Our members support ESL programming and their passion for fostering storytelling as a way to connect with the gifts that students bring to school resonated with all of us. I know that school boards are excited to work more closely with Living Hyphen to develop meaningful writing experiences for students that will explore and celebrate their full identities.

The students in the ESL classes at Iroquois Ridge High School had the opportunity to experience Living Hyphen’s magic during their workshop on Living in Between Cultures and how important it is to tell our stories. Through a lot of engaging activities the students got the opportunity to tell i.e. write their own stories from various perspectives. The greatest takeaway from the workshop was that a number of the students used their experience and skills obtained in the workshop for similar assignments in their other classes and a few of them showed interest in creative writing. Justine is engaging, kind, patient and knows how to show each and every participant in her workshops that they are important. Hope to continue the collaboration!

We are so grateful to Living Hyphen for hosting a writing workshop for our newcomer and multilingual learners. Right from the start, the students felt heard, seen and valued in their experiences through the way in which Living Hyphen scaffolded the creative writing process. As a group, we learned through the sharing of our stories how we are more connected to each other than we once thought while also gaining a deeper understanding for the experiences others have been through to get to this moment. I cannot recommend Living Hyphen and their work enough; we will be having them back next school year!
