Honouring the Land: An Open Mic Night in K'emk'emeláY/Vancouver

Our first storytelling gathering in Vancouver was one that held many complex and interconnected experiences. Together, we honoured the land, waters, and ecosystems that give life to us all, while also holding space for the tragedy in the Filipino/a/x community that occurred at the Lapu Lapu Festival just days before this open mic.

Date and Time: Wednesday, April 30 | 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Location: Teck Gallery, SFU Harbour Centre | 555 West Hastings St.

With support from the Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University

We are very grateful to The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University for generously sharing space with us! The Writer’s Studio is a creative writing program in Simon Fraser University's Continuing Studies Department. The program is offered in-person (at SFU Vancouver, Harbour Centre), as well as online. Since 2001, nearly 500 emerging writers have taken this program. Many of these writers have gone on to publish nationally and internationally, and several have won or been nominated for prestigious literary awards, prizes, and contests.

Curious to learn more? This program is designed for writers who are ready to immerse themselves in a manuscript. You’ll join a supportive community as you master your craft and establish a sustainable writing practice!
