Benefit for writers under siege in Gaza
On November 1st, 2026, we gathered at Gallery 44 in 401 Richmond to raise funds for writers who continue to be under siege in Gaza. We heard beautiful readings and storytelling from Nyla Matuk, Gavin Barrett, Sarah Abu-Sharar, Yahya Al Hamarna, as well as Zines for Gaza writers Shahd Alnaami, Eva Abu Mariam, and Nourhan Abushahin.
Nourhan Abushahin is a writer in Gaza whose zine has been published by Coastal Lines Press, a fundraising and publishing initiative by Palestinian writers under siege in Gaza. They use words to raise life-saving support for their families. Through the Zines from Gaza initiative, they create and distribute small booklets of poetry, prose, and essays that carry stories of survival, resistance, and hope. Each zine is distributed globally with the support of volunteers and solidarity networks.
